Jewellery Care
Sterling Silver
Due to a chemical reaction between the silver and various elements in the environment it can tarnish. I therefore recommend following the recommendations below:
- Avoid exposure to chemicals: Remove your jewellery before swimming in chlorinated pools or hot tubs, using cleaning products, or applying lotions, perfumes, or hairsprays. These chemicals can accelerate tarnishing.
- Clean it regularly: Gently clean your sterling silver jewellery with the polishing cloth provided to remove dirt and oils. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the surface.
- Prevent tarnishing: To slow down tarnishing, store your jewellery in an airtight bag or box. If you have any anti-tarnish strips or silica gel packets you can add one of these as they help absorb moisture and prevent oxidation.
- Wear it often: Surprisingly, wearing your sterling silver jewellery frequently can help prevent tarnishing. The natural oils in your skin create a protective barrier that slows down the oxidation process.
It's important to note that tarnishing is a natural process and does not indicate a defect in the sterling silver. With proper care and maintenance, tarnish can be minimised or removed to restore the shine and beauty of sterling silver jewellery.
Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil jewellery should be handled with care to preserve its rich finish. Avoid contact with water, perfumes, lotions and cleaning products, as these can cause the gold layer to wear more quickly. Remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping. When not in use, store it in a soft pouch or lined box to prevent scratches. Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid using jewellery polishing cloths, abrasive materials or chemical cleaners. With mindful care, your gold vermeil pieces will retain their colour and shine over time
